<p>Keys to getting a six pack:<br />
You can have the greatest, most muscular set of abs in the world, but if they are blanketed by a layer of body fat, who cares. In order to rid yourself of the extra body fat around your midsection, you need to incorporate effective cardio sessions into your fitness plan. You cannot spot-reduce the midsection by doing extra ab exercises like crunches or sit-ups. You first must burn off the body fat through proper cardio to properly define the area.</p>
<p>Abdominal training by itself will not do much. Cardio needs to be intense enough to do the trick. Three to four sessions a week of intense jogging, running, the Stairmaster, the elliptical, jumping rope, or biking should be enough to get the process in gear. Swimming, hiking, and taking aerobics classes are beneficial as well. Nothing beats jogging or running. It is the most intense, efficient, and effective method of burning calories. If running outside hurts your joints, try running inside on a treadmill or outside on a dirt path. It definitely is easier on the body.</p>
<p>Again, you NEED three to four intense cardio sessions a week to help create a calorie deficit and help rid the body of the fat that covers your abs.</p>
<p>Proper Nutrition:</p>
<p>Do not sabotage your results in the gym by giving yourself a passport to pig out. Ridding the body of fat once and for all is accomplished by proper nutrition more so than incorporating cardio. At the end of the day, if you have consumed more calories than you have expended, you add body fat. So you need to burn more calories than you consume.</p>
<p>Nutrition is important because you can reduce the amount of calories you take in, therefore greatly having an effect on the amount which you have to expend through cardio. Eat five to six small, well-balanced meals spaced apart about every three to four hours. Try to keep something healthy on hand.</p>
<p>If not, when you become real hungry, you will opt for something that isn&#8217;t as good for you. When you become overly hungry, all rational thinking goes out the window.</p>
<p>But it is important to get something in you. Not eating on time or at all is almost as bad as eating too much. Keep protein intake high (approximately 50% of daily calories), carbs moderate (40%), and fats minimal (10%).</p>
<p>Muscle fiber is made of tightly-wound protein molecules that is damaged during a workout, so you need more protein than the sedentary person to help that muscle tissue repair. Carbohydrates have an important role in the body, but do not base your meals on them. Try to avoid simple sugars like cane sugar, honey, fruit juices, syrups, and even a lot of fruit.</p>
<p>Drink at least a gallon of clean water each day as well. It will help in nutrient absorption and digestion and will help flush toxins from the body.</p>
<p>Bottom line, make sure you are supplying your body with well-balanced, healthy food every three to four hours.</p>
<p>Weight training The Abdominals:</p>
<p>Here is where most people go wrong in their attempt to develop their abs. I often ask those I train, &#8220;Would you train your biceps with sets of 50 reps with no weight?&#8221; Of course, they say &#8220;no.&#8221; How about your chest, 50 reps with no weight? Another no. I then ask, &#8220;Then why would you do that with your abs?&#8221;</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an important key. If you want proper ab development, you need to add resistance (weight) to your ab exercises. Abs are muscles just like biceps, triceps, pecs, glutes, whatever. You need resistance to properly strengthen and build them. The same goes for abdominals</p>

<p>This is the intermediate level Turbulence Training workout B.  You will begin with the warm-up for the intermediate level and then begin your first superset with dumbbell squats and stability ball rollouts, which is a difficult abdominal exercise.</p>
<p>So, for the db squats, hold the dumbbells at your sides at arm&#8217;s length with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.  Next, you will squat to parallel and then push back up while keeping your chest and head up.  Be sure to keep your shoulder blades together and have a nice proud posture at all times for 8 repetitions.</p>
<p>Move quickly over the stability ball rollout.  To get in position for this exercise, begin by kneeling on a mat with the ball close to you and your hands down low on the ball.  With your abs braced, rollout, stretching the abdominals, and roll back in.  So, as you go out, keep your body in a straight line and feel the stretch and then contract your abs to come back up.  Be conservative and only go out as far as you feel comfortable.  You will perform all repetitions of this exercise and then rest for one minute and repeat the superset 2 more times for a total of 3 supersets.</p>
<p>In the second superset of workout B, you will do a dumbbell reverse lunge which is like a split squat and pair that with a side plank.</p>
<p>For the reverse lunge, hold the dumbbells at your side and step backwards, bend your front knee and drop your hips straight down, keeping the back knee just off the ground and then return to the start position.  So, pull yourself back up with the glutes and the hamstrings of the lead leg.  Do 8 repetitions and then switch to the other side.</p>
<p>Without rest move immediately into the side plank for a 20 second hold.  For proper form, place your body in a straight line, chest up and out with your shoulder blades back.  Once you&#8217;ve done 20 seconds for one side, switch over and do another 20 for the other side.  After you finish this exercise take a one minute rest and repeat the superset 2 more times for a total of 3 supersets.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to really work on your form in this exercise and in all exercises as it will help you to get use to standing and sitting with better posture and hopefully help relieve any pain that you might have in your upper back.</p>
<p>In the final superset of workout B from the intermediate Turbulence Training program, you will pair a dumbbell row with a back extension on the ball. For the db row, you are going to have the db in one hand, while the other hand is going to rest on the end of the bench as is the knee on the same side.  Now, keep your back flat and bend your back knee, while planting the foot into the ground.  Place the db at arm&#8217;s length, and then using your upper back and lats (a back muscle), bring your shoulder blade towards the midline and row that dumbbell up to your chest.  Be sure to perform this exercise without changing any other body position but your shoulder.  So, do all repetitions for one side and then switch sides.</p>
<p>Without rest move on to the back extension on the ball.  For this exercise, make sure you place the ball on a non-slip surface.  Next, place your feet up against a wall and press your thighs into the ball.  Then you will lean forward without using your hands and then come back up.  You will use not only your lower back to come back up, but also your glutes and your hamstrings.  So, perform all repetitions, take a one minute rest and then repeat the superset 2 more times for a total of 3 supersets.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s it for your strength training and you can now move on to the interval training and finish off with stretching.</p>

<p>&#8220;The 300 workout gets its name from the total number of repetitions that must be completed during the session.  Contrary to popular belief, this workout was NOT performed every single day, or even weekly, for that matter.  This is more of a challenge workout that is used sparingly to monitor progress and gauge your overall fitness level.  This body weight 300 challenge workout will provide the same benefits as the original movie 300 workout, but may be easier for most of you who want to workout at home without any equipment.  I want you to try one of these workouts this week and leave your time in the comments section below.&#8221;  It&#8217;s a killer bodyweight workout that will help you shed fat and to get ripped like the Spartans in the movie 300.  The great thing about this workout is that it requires NO weights or exercise equipment.  You can easily do this workout at home. When you do this workout make sure you start a timer so you can keep track of all your progress.  I&#8217;ve tried this workout before and it is definitely one to where you will be sore the next day. <p>This video takes you through the evolution of 21st century ab training.  </p>
<p>You&#8217;ll find 6 different ab exercises where the focus isn&#8217;t on crunching or spinal flexion, but instead is geared towards providing a core workout that offers stabilization and resistance rotation.  </p>
<p>Just because these ab exercises aren&#8217;t your traditional crunches, doesn&#8217;t mean that you won&#8217;t get that great ab burning feeling following your workout.  </p>
<p>These core exercises will still help build 6 pack abs, but in a much safer way that will reduce the incidence of low back pain.</p>
<p>The first ab exercise in the evolution of ab training is a simple plank.  </p>
<p>This exercise needs to be mastered by beginners and those at risk of low back pain.  The goal here is to work up to a 90 second to 2 minute hold in the plank position.</p>
<p>The next core exercise is the side plank or side bridge.  A little more difficult than the regular plank, the trick here is to keep your body in a straight line and keep those hips raised.</p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve mastered those ab exercises, try the plank with your elbows on the stability ball.  </p>
<p>According to Men&#8217;s Health magazine, this exercise works your abs 30% hard than a regular plank.  To increase the difficulty of this ab exercise, try moving the ball further away from your body.</p>
<p>The fourth ab exercise to work your entire core is the stability ball jackknife.  </p>
<p>Here, you will place your feet on the stability ball and your hands on the floor or elbows on a bench.  Then you will bring your knees to your chest, while maintaining the plank position, and then return to the starting position.</p>
<p>Similar to the ab wheel, the next exercise in the evolution of ab training is the stability ball rollout. </p>
<p>Place the ball in front of you, with your hands on the ball, roll the ball out, stretching and maintaining your back in a straight line, and contract to return to the starting position. </p>
<p>The last ab exercise is a plank rotation.  </p>
<p>When you take a regular plank and combine it with a side plank, the subsequent resisting rotation works to provide a total body workout.  </p>
<p>So to perform this exercise you will start in the side plank position, and without moving your hips rotate to a regular plank, and then over to the opposite side plank position.  </p>
<p>Continue to do this, while keeping your back straight and hips raised.</p>
<p>Crunches are old news.  You just won&#8217;t get the same total body benefits of this new type of training.  </p>

<p>Today I am going to reveal to you the secret to the elusive 10 minute total body workout.  A lot of people don&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s possible to get an incredible workout in only 10 minutes that will help with your fat loss program.  But, of course you can and it&#8217;s very simple.</p>
<p>Start with a general bodyweight exercise as your warm-up.  So, in this example I am going to do a bodyweight squat with hands in front, and pair that with a push up.  If you&#8217;re a beginner, then you can easily substitute wall squats and kneeling push ups.</p>
<p>Complete two rounds of that superset, performing 10 repetitions for each. Once you have finished the warm-up superset, your body should be ready for the next round of exercises.</p>
<p>The two best exercises to couple together in a 10-minute workout are the dumbbell squat exercise and the dumbbell chest press.  When doing the former exercise, obviously you are working your lower body, but you are also<br />
working your upper back by holding those dumbbells in position.</p>
<p>For the first set I want you to pick a weight that is relatively easy.  So, choose a weight that you could normally do for 15 repetitions and only do 10.  After you finish the 10 reps move on to the chest press and follow the same method.</p>
<p>One of the great things about this dumbbell pairing is that you can usually use the same weight you used for the squat as you use for the chest press, saving you time.  After finishing the first round of the superset, increase the weight, so that it is now a very difficult challenge.  Now, you will want to complete the set performing 8 repetitions.  If 8 reps is still too easy, then add more weight and continue on.</p>
<p>Do as much as you can in 10 minutes and that&#8217;s your workout.  If you follow the guidelines I have outlined and combine it with a quick warm-up and the proper weights, then you can get a great total body workout in only 10<br />
minutes that will increase your metabolism, burn fat, and build muscle.</p>

<p>The interval training portion of your workouts is very important for fat loss. Not only has research shown that long, slow cardio doesnt work that well for fat burning, but studies also show that interval training works better to help you lose belly fat.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, just saying the words interval training can spare people, plus some trainers make interval training far too complicated for people who have never done interval training in the past.</p>
<p>The great news is that interval training can be done by everyone, even beginners, provided you have them exercise at the right level of intensity for their fitness level.</p>
<p>Generally, I recommend people use the stationary bike for their interval training workout simply because it is easy to transition between hard an easy and you don&#8217;t have to worry about falling off the treadmill or advanced sprinting.  Also, you&#8217;ll need an extra warm-up with sprinting intervals.</p>
<p>In this example I am going to use the treadmill and I recommend doing your interval training immediately following your strength training.  However, if you aren&#8217;t fit enough, then you can do interval training or cardio training on your off days instead.  Just be sure to have 1 full day of rest.  For your intervals, you will want to train 3 days/week.</p>
<p>Below I am going to detail 3 interval training workouts from the beginner preparation phase.</p>
<p>Workout A</p>
<p>Start with a 5 minute warm up, exercising at a slightly harder than what you&#8217;d do for a regular cardio pace.  For example, if you normally do 3.5 mph, then do 3.7 mph for 3 minutes.</p>
<p>This would be at a subjective 7/10 intensity level.  So if your regular cardio was at a 6/10, then think about that intensity and then go a little bit higher. This will allow you to exercise harder than you normally would if you went for 30 minutes straight.</p>
<p>After 3 minutes at a 7/10 intensity it is important to bring it down to a nice, easy 3/10 intensity for your recovery.   At this pace you will remain for 2 minutes and it will allow you to work extra hard when you bring it back up to the 7/10 intensity.</p>
<p>Do this for a total of 3 total intervals of hard and easy, counting as one. Finish with a 5 minute cool down.  This interval training workout will last a little over 20 minutes.</p>
<p>Workout B</p>
<p>This interval training workout is a little more difficult than workout A. Complete your warm up and then do 90 seconds at an 8/10 intensity.  This would almost tire you out after 90 seconds at this pace, and then follow with a 2 minute recovery at a 3/10 intensity.  Complete for a total of 5-6 intervals, followed by a 5 minute cool down, lasting a total of 20-25 minutes.</p>
<p>Workout C</p>
<p>This is a high intensity cardio workout.  To complete workout C, you will perform 20 minutes of straight cardio at a 6-6.5/10 intensity.  So this would be something that tires you out after 20 minutes and something you couldn&#8217;t do for 25 minutes.  Again, begin with a 5 minute warm up, 20<br />
minutes of cardio, and follow that with 5 minutes of cool down.</p>
